we’ve been so dry here in colorado lately. i’m really itching for a big snowstorm. hopefully we get one more big one before the season is done. of course as soon as (or 18mo after, lol!) we leave virginia, they get their biggest snowstorm in years. figures! we barely got a dusting the 5 years we were there! :) we are due for a big three inches this week! better then nothing, i suppose.

we’ve got another sick kid (norah, AGAIN!!), so we’re just having a lazy day around the house getting ready for john’s cousin to fly in tomorrow. i ran outside for a minute in john’s boots and my pj’s to try to snap some macro snowflakes. i used the 60mm 2.8G micro. it’s harder than i thought it would be to nail focus! these are just resized for web & corners rounded. no cropping.

i didn’t have anything dark to catch the flakes on, so i cut part of a black velux blanket (that i use for a backdrop). hence the “hairy” background, lol! here’s a pull back of where i was shooting them on the front porch….

i’m definitely going to try again later when john’s around to make sure norah doesn’t attack the baby (in the nicest way possible, of course) while i’m out there. :P
The snowflakes are awesome!
WOW!!! I get to order a Macro today. After seeing these shots I am super excited to try it in the snow here (all 34 inches of it). I hope Norah feels better soon and no one else gets the sickies.
Those snowflakes are so awesome! I’ve never seen the detail of an actual snowflake like that. So neat! I hope Norah gets feeling better right away!
I love the snowflakes! How fun is that macro! : ) I am loving the snow too, but as long as it doesn’t come again in april…..
OMG your pictures are awesome like always! you can have our snow and the more we are getting on tuesday night. it sucks I hate snow. we got 17″+ saturday and they say 18″-20″ on tuesday night. yuk! if i could send it your way i would. i still cant believe the photo’s you have taken and how well you zoom in on those snowflakes. Wow Jenn Wow!
Those are GORGEOUS snowflake pictures. You thoroughly impressed my children!
We were just studying snowflakes last week for homeschooling:) We learned that each snowflake always has six points or sides. We then observed them and I’d never really known just how beautiful they are! Thanks for sharing, those pictures are amazing!!
wow! i cannot believe thats an actual snowflake! so neat!
Jenn, I didn’t realize snowflakes actually looked like that. At first, I thought it was some sort of confetti. Great pics!
The snowflakes as everyone has said are amazing!!! It’s crazy how much detail you were able to get of the snowflakes!
Off topic, but…I tried the marshmallow fondant last night and it turned out great! Thanks so much for sharing the link : ) I used it on my Dad’s bday cake as my practice run before I make Nolan’s Spiderman bday Cake next week!
