thirty days of gratitude?

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

i know this probably should have been done in november, but i seem to have a new habit of being just a bit late on things.  i saw this on pinterest recently and i’d really like another project like this.  i am considering adding this on top of my regular 365 project.  and doing it with the instagram iphone app like the blogger who created it suggests.  i might just be crazy, though!

it’s beginning to look a lot like …..

….we skipped thankgiving!  lol.  i have been in christmas mode for a while now, but i’ve been restraining myself pretty well.  this week, though, i lost control!!  lol.  i put up some decorations outside early in the week, and today after some nudging and nagging, the tree is up!  now, where is my snow?!  this 70 degree weather just isn’t cutting it!

we also started on these little yarn and button trees i found on pinterest.  we still have a little more work to do on them (little ones lose interest fast, lol), but they are cute!  kayleigh enjoyed it, and was able to finish hers, even adding snow, lol.

and proof we DID celebrate thanksgiving, even if we were in christmas mode most of the day.  we got a turkey breast this year instead of a whole turkey.  hence the missing legs!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

for charlotte’s birthday i made her a new quilt.  the one she was using, i made for norah a couple years ago.  it was so small, though.  i just mis-measured when i made it, and it was kind of silly.  so last month i started this one, with a goal of finishing it for her birthday.  i failed.  i was trying to finish up the binding the night before her birthday, and ran out of fabric.  so i bought more the next day and finished it the day after her birthday.  somehow i don’t think she’ll hold it against me.  :)

while it’s perfectly imperfect, i am happy with it.  it was a learning process, and i definitely won’t be quilting again any time soon!  but it is cute, soft, and warm.  so it works for me!

we have 6 more months here in colorado (cry with me!).  charlotte just moved from our bed into her own.  our house only has three bedrooms (we only had two kids and a baby when we moved in), and even with the older girls having bunk beds, there just isn’t room to put charlotte in their room.   so we set her up in a corner in our room for the time being.  once we move, the two little girls will likely share, and each of the big kids will get their own rooms.  our room isn’t too big, but it fits us all just fine for now.

i stole the embroidery hoop idea from pinterest.  i like that it’s easily changeable and if she knocks it down, she won’t get hurt.  i traced her hands on the back of the fabric on the hoop at the top of her bed, and embroidered it.  her pillow was made last year for her first birthday by amy at nana company.  i used some of the same fabrics in the pillow for her quilt and the hoops on the wall.  the crocheted blanket was made by my grandma for norah, but it’s a good size to keep for extra warmth in the little bed here since it’s right next to the window.

i just had to use this fishy from heath ross’ fish in bags in one of the teeny tiny hoops.  ;)

the birdie bank is from pbk.  i think i got it for her birthday last year?  the frame has a pic of the little girls at the zoo from last week (in the post before this one).  the doll is trixie by blabla.  i made the dress for her birthday last year.  that fabric is also in the quilt, and on the wall.

one of the hoops went missing during the project.  it has the japanese nesting doll fabric i used on the quilt boarder.  it will go under/between the last two circles once i find/replace it!   it’s one of the teeny tiny ones like the fish in bags.  the blanket under her bed is THIS one from pbk.  i usually use it for me if she wakes up upset and i pat her back to sleep. lol!

:)

as usual….

i’m a little late here.  charlotte’s birthday went well.  she now proudly (and repeatedly) tells people she is TWO (especially is you ask her how she is, she’ll say “two!”)!  she had a great day, the weather was beautiful, we headed out to the zoo for the day.  the little girls got to ride the carousel.

i did let her open one present before we set out for the day.  it was from my mom.  a cute little nursing kitty.  it is so sweet, and both the girls love and fight over it all day long.

later one we had a dinner i knew she’d eat (picky, picky, little thing!), cake (a little lopsided, eh?), and presents!

john’s mom drew this card from a picture i took of charlotte this summer, and attached a target gc.  :) cute!

it was a great day, and it’s amazing to think our house is now void of babies.  the diapers are long gone, no one is nursing, no more first steps.  on to the next stage.  i am excited to watch these little ones grow, they are already fantastic little people.

tomorrow, she will be two.

my last baby, the last second birthday.  no more toddling,  no more diapers.   tomorrow, charlotte turns two.  it is bittersweet.  in one way, it’s exciting to move on to the next stage, but in another, it’s hard and honestly quite sad to leave that one behind.   if money and space were no issue, i would have a house FULL of babies.  i was an only child, and while sometimes it’s a little overwhelming, the noise level is juuust right.  silence is not usually welcome here! :)   i will have more pictures to share tomorrow, but for tonight, i wanted to put together a few pictures from her birthday on each one she has had so far.  happy birthday eve my little firey redhead!
