a day in the life.

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

a friend and i were just talking about the last time i did this project, and i figured i’d give it another go.  today was crazy from beginning to end, so hold on tight, lol.

(obviously)  5:16am.  wake up.  my alarm is set for 5:30, but charlotte usually gets me up before that.  yawn.

6am – making lunches.  nothing spectacular, but edible.  and better than  school’s choices.  corn dogs or pancakes.  mmmmm, lol.

DSC_5663

7am – getting ready to get out the door.  kayleigh and ethan are dropped off at school at 7:30.

8am- leaving for norah’s swimming lessons.  the mess in the living room is the result of a fit ethan threw this morning.  over shoes.  so i left it there for him to clean up when he got home.  and he did.

9am.  playing on the (turned off) sprayground waiting for lessons to start.

10am – leaving swimming.  i have no idea why there are signs saying not to turn left. it is not a busy road.  i used to turn right, make a left onto a dead end street, make a u-turn, and then make a right back on to the street … but after watching a cop do it, and nearly every other person leaving the pool, i now just turn left.

11am – running a few errands.  norah spent her birthday money from aunt lois on a cat keyboard.  kayleigh has a keyboard from john’s mom and she never shares it.  norah loves having one now.

12pm – while we were out norah started screaming and crying that her eyes hurt.  the same thing happened before bed last night.  i was wondering if it is allergies, because i’ve already been getting them pretty bad some days (i never had allergies until we moved here, btw!).  i bought children’s claritin and gave her a dose, then called her doctor.  she’s never in her life had a sick visit to the doctor before, but she was just inconsolable.  they had no appointments, so they told us to go to urgent care.  by the time we got there, she could open her eyes again.  she did say they were still itchy.  she ended up getting diagnosed with an ear infection (allllmost double EI), and either pink eye OR allergies, lol.  he said she may wake up with pink eye tomorrow, and if not, it’s probably allergies.  her eyes aren’t pink or gunky.  i really think it is allergies.

DSC_5705

1pm – dropping off prescription for pain med ear drops for her ear infection for if it starts to hurt her.

DSC_5706

2pm  – picking up big kids from school.  this “no u-turn this block” sign is brand new today.  i have been making a u-turn in this same spot for nearly three years.  along with about 20 other families.  so now i have to turn down another street and come out to make a left turn.  no biggie, but i just thought it was funny.  they put up at least 6 signs in this one little block.

DSC_5709

3pm – homework.  math.  yuck.  word problems.   or, as kayleigh corrects me EVERY time, story problems.  see, ethan is in the living room cleaning up his mess.  :)

DSC_5730

4pm – trying to make dinner.  not getting very far.

DSC_5742

5pm, had an early dinner, sent the big kids up to clean their rooms while i tackled downstairs.   charlotte re-dumped out everything ethan had cleaned up.  boo.

DSC_5749

6pm – kids got their showers early so they could have a slice of some coffee cake i made after dinner.

6pm

7pm, big kids all in bed, charlotte going “niy niy.”  in her words.

7pm

and it is now 8, and i am going to go down and empty the dishwasher and go pass out in bed with my little sweet cuddly baby.  funny day to do this project.  usually it’s not quite as crazy, but it’s not uncommon.  :)

just a note. i am NOT a decorator, and not working with a big (or any, really) budget here, lol!  here is the girls’ room. norah sleeps on the bottom bunk, obviously. these bunks are nice because they can be separated into two twins, which we’ll hopefully be doing once we move.

i got kayleigh that wall bookcase from land of nod.  it’s really great.  she used her night stand for storing her “current reads” when she was in her old bed, so losing that going to the top bunk, she needed something – and it is perfect!

when i was moving her old bookcase, it broke.  i guess we got our moneys worth.  it was a crappy mdf thing that we got when kayleigh was two.  it’s been through 4 moves!  i got this one for $30 on craigslist & sanded/repainted it.  the pink chair is charlotte’s, but it’s in there for now.  the flower stickers on the wall won’t last long.  charlotte already ripped two off & ruined them.  bummer!

so it’s mostly done.  i still would like to change a few things on the walls, but i’m not in a rush.  we’re moving with the next year or so, so i don’t want to spend much on things until we settle … again.

wanna hear me snort?

how’s that for a long-time-no-see title? lol. it’s been a crazy house here. we had three kids sick, a non-sleeping mom (bc of the three aforementioned sick kids), swimming, gymnastics, appointments, school parties, valentines …. it is hard to do it all alone!! i will nto lie. people always say, “oh, i could never do it all myself.” you can if you have to! :) the house isn’t always clean. it is actually a rarity anymore. my lunches aren’t always super cute with fancy shaped cheese and giraffe pics (but i do still get up early and make it every day!), and my photography has not grown a snidgen. BUT, we are doing it. we’re doing mroe than just gettign by. we’re having fun, and cleaning up later. we’re keeping busy, and all healthy at the moment. things are good. crazy, busy, exhausting! but good. :)

we had some great snow last week! it makes me so happy when the sky is hazy, the snow is falling, and we’re all stuck inside just watching it pile up. i get more excited than the kids, that is for sure! but, if it’s not snowing the weather we had today is a close second favorite. high 60′s, a little breezy. oh, it was gorgeous. tomorrow will be, too. i can’t wait. we walked to pick the kids up from school today, but left a little early so we could hit the park first. charlotte is getting big, she can do the slides all by herself now. she had a little trouble one time while i was making a video to send john, though. it cracked me up!

and here are a few more pics. i’ve been posting daily to my 365 Set on Flickr. on day 46 now. truckin’ right along! :) it is fun, adn i think because i’ve done it before, it’s not nearly as stressful this time around. i’ve take a few cell pics, and posted quite a few really junky ones, but it will be fun to look back on again. :)

our walk to the park today. i will be so sad the day i don’t have mountains out my front door.

valentine pics. i haven’t pulled my seamless paper out in a while. it was really fun to use it, but i just don’t have the room in here!
